About Kate Winskill

Kate rediscovered art in her middle years, spending five years exploring fine art, printing and textile design at Kingston University and University of West London. Her work draws upon her collections of photography, drawings and ephemera collated over years of travel and observation.  Her paintings in oil and acrylic reflect her reaction to the materials at hand and often feature vibrant colour and rapid execution with a sense of energy flowing throughout the work. Figures and portraits plus urban landscapes are her chosen subjects in paint.

Her contemporary limited edition prints available on this website feature drawing, photography and digital imagery. Her Famous Faces series uses painted images by Kate, collage and photography to create striking pop-art inspired prints of some of the most celebrated stars of music and screen. Categories Urban Skylines and Battersea Power Station  focus on the urban architecture and the material fabric of the modern city. Battersea 1978, features her own iconic photograph of Battersea Power station as a functioning utility, taken in 1978 and digitally re-painted to enhance it's original gritty magnificence.

Inspired by the work of her artist sons, Rory Thomas (@RoryThomasartandmusic) and Raphial Thomas  (www.raphthomasart.co.uk), Kate has recently experimented in digital collages with a series of CatWomen and Penguin prints.

Girls! series uses combinations of her own original photography, found negatives and newsprint and painted and graffiti backgrounds.

Kate lives in SW London and is founder of Art House Galleries CIC, where she regularly shows her work. Click here for latest gallery location.
